Zoom Airlines does a nosedive

Zoom Airlines Inc., a budget airline based in Canada has suspended all operations and filed for bankruptcy protection. The announcement was made late last night, and was blamed by the founders of the company chiefly on high fuel costs.

Zoom was founded in 2002 and provided cheap flights between destinations in the UK, Canada, US, Europe and the Caribbean. Before the announcement last night, aircraft were detained at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada and Glasgow airport in the UK, leaving passengers stranded.

According to reports from the BBC last night, there is no provision for replacement flights, which means passengers who were expecting to travel with Zoom will have to fund replacement flights out of their own pockets, with little hope of being reimbursed in the near future, if at all.
