Travelers as well as Boy Scouts should be prepared

If you’re going abroad, it’s always wise to make sure you know the current situation in the area you are visiting, even if you’ve been there many times before. But sometimes it’s hard to find out - newspapers and tv always focus on bad news; they rarely bother to report that the problem they were ranting about 3 months ago is now sorted.

It would be useful to have a site online that brought information on all the countries in the world into one place, including things like bird flu, whether there is a threat of terrorism at the moment, and local laws and customs you might need to be aware of.

The good news is that there is such a site. Many Brits will already be aware of it, but the advice it contains is just as valuable, no matter where you come from. What am I talking about? The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office site. Here, are pages of detailed current advice on any country you may wish to visit.

Information is updated regularly, and there is also a page with links to other Governments’ travel advice, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the USA.
