Trains worth the fare on your next vacation

Japan Railways to Shikoku include a compartment for young children

In today’s fast-paced world, trains often get forgotten when you’re planning a vacation, even though rushing around at breakneck speed doesn’t generally give you that relaxed holiday feeling you are most likely looking for. But just because you don’t usually go by train, that’s no reason not to at least consider the idea.

When you fly, all you see is clouds, plus the occasional aerial view if you’re close enough to the window to look out. On a train, though, you travel through areas which are often outstandingly beautiful, and have time to savor the view.

AskMen, the Men’s Portal, has just published a top ten trains list. The results are listed here, but for the comments as to why each is best, you will have to go to the original article (link below). Anyway, here’s the list:

  1. TGV, France
  2. Japan Railways Group, Japan
  3. Eurostar, London to Paris
  4. ICE/NachtZug, Germany
  5. TAV, Italy
  6. Russian Railways, Russia
  7. KTX, South Korea
  8. AVE, Spain
  9. Great Southern Rail Limited, Australia
  10. VR, Finland
