Option #1: The Gene Autry Museum brings back memories of old Westerns. Gene Autry, Oklahoma is the natural choice to be home to the Gene Autry Museum. The famous cowboy had a ranch nearby and that was where the town got its name. The tiny town is located in Carter County and has a very small population. Option #2: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum – a look inside the Western heritage of Oklahoma. The state of Oklahoma is well known for a long and varied Western heritage. That heritage is memorialized forever in the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, located in Oklahoma City. Visitors have the opportunity to encounter more than 28,000 American Indian and Western artifacts and art works as well as an extensive collection of Western and rodeo exhibits. Established in 1955, the museum was originally constructed in order to honor the West and the era of the cowboy.

Option #3: In the Southwestern corner of Oklahoma, visitors will find the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Situated just outside Lawton, the refuge was opened in 1901 as a protected area for some of the most unique wildlife habitats in the country. Today it is the oldest managed wildlife refuge within the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The refuge spans more than 59,000 acres and is home to a wide array of different species. Within the refuge there are 240 different types of birds, 806 different plant species, 64 reptiles and amphibians and 36 types of fish. Not only are many of the species that reside in the refuge unique, but the location of the refuge is also geologically unique as well.
