More than 50 years ago, it was possible to travel from India to Bangladesh by rail. This route was closed after increasingly fierce clashes between the mainly Muslim Bangladeshi population and Indian Hindus.
But now the line is set to reopen, after an agreement was signed today by Bangladeshi Communication Secretary, Mahbub ur Rahman and India’s High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Pinaki Ranjan Chakravarty. Tickets for the “Friendship Train,” as it has been called, are on sale for journeys starting from 14th April, the Bengali New Year.

If you’re looking for somewhere a little different this year, and you like the idea of sampling a whole new cuisine you’ve probably never tasted before, you could do worse than travelling to Poland.
"Only a native can help you discover and fully experience the authentic Poland," says Polish-born Rose, who lives with her American husband in Montana and created each itinerary in collaboration with local people. "We cook in farmhouses, using the same ingredients and methods my grandmothers used, and then learn modern Polish cuisine from city chefs."
Guest accommodations are in castles or palaces during the agricultural part of the trip, and in first-class hotels in urban areas.
In addition to hands-on and demonstration-style cooking lessons, Rose’s itineraries include side trips to neighborhood markets and Polish food festivals for samples of local breads, cheeses, preserves, sausages, wild game dishes, beer, honey wines and world-renowned vodkas. Blueberry and mushroom hunting are also on the agenda, as well as visits to cultural sites.
A map of Poland, regional descriptions, and trip itineraries are available at Poland Culinary Vacations. By filling in a name, e-mail address, city and country, visitors can sign up for Charter Membership and earn a 10 percent discount on any trip, starting in June 2008.

If your dream is to travel the Inca Trail, you had better get your skates on, because permits are selling fast. Only a limited number of these are issued by the Government of Peru every year, so once they’re gone, they’re gone.
In the meantime, here’s a video of some previous visitors:
If Peru’s not your favourite adventure destination, there are plenty more to choose from on The Adventure Company’s site.
