If you travel abroad more than once a year, it makes sense to get your travel insurance by the year. It works out much cheaper than insuring each trip separately. If you travel as a family, you can get a family policy - generally the kids are included for free.

Go Travel offers travel insurance by the year for as little as £31.43. Kids are included for free with family cover. There’s really no contest for value for money than Go Travel, and it’s easy to arrange cover on their site - plus you get a discount for buying online.

If you prefer to insure just a single trip, they will cover you from just £3.95. There are special packages for skiing, snowboarding and backpackers (up to 74 years old) starting from £10.95. This year, there new cruise policies for the under 55s. The company’s motto is "We’ll Go the extra mile to make you smile!" and the medical expenses limit is a huge £10 million, enough for any conceivable emergency, so why not visit the Go Travel insurance website today and get a quote.

Mobile communications from the air soon to be universal?

March 26th, 2008 at 02:35pm Under Travel tips

Emirates is modifying its fleet to allow mobile calls

There have been developments in the field of in flight mobile communications. It seems likely that the current restrictions will be lifted within the foreseeable future.

In April, 2006, Air France announced that it had ordered a "mobile-friendly" Airbus, to join its fleet early last year. Some UK airlines were already offering in-flight communications via the airline’s network, now Ofcom (the UK communications watchdog) has announced that plans are in place "to allow passengers on UK-registered aircraft to use their own mobiles while in flight in European airspace."

Further afield, Emirates airline is modifying its entire flight to allow calls in flight. The first mobile call on an Emirates flight was logged yesterday. Meanwhile in Korea, many cellphones are sold with a special "flight mode" installed, which disables calling, but allows games, cameras and dictionaries. Airlines are still requiring cellphone users to turn their phones off, however, saying it is difficult to check every phone to see if it is in flight mode. Confusion reigns.

US: threats of violence in Kenya “dramatically reduced”

March 23rd, 2008 at 08:52pm Under Exotic locations+ Travel tips

President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya

Months of violent unrest which arose after the election of December 27th last year has been dramatically reduced following an agreement between the President, Mwai Kibaki and the opposition leader, Raila Odinga. Earlier this month, a power sharing pact was enshrined in law. Since then, levels of violence have decreased, although there are still pockets of turbulence.

The United States is advising travelers to continue to “evaluate their personal security situation in light of continuing, potential threats from terrorism and crime.” The Peace Corps program in Kenya is still suspended, but the situation is under review, the State Department said.
